When selecting a cutting wheel, remember to take into consideration:
Wheel thickness — thin wheels are best for quick, efficient cuts on thin gauge material; thicker ones ideal for heavier gauge stock. Heavier-gauge reinforced wheels are stiffer, hold the cut line better.
Type of abrasives — standard abrasives are essential for efficient cutting, while zirconia abrasives are ideal for tougher or more difficult-to-cut applications.

Calumet Abrasives: Specialists in Custom-cutting Wheels

Calumet Abrasives has a long history of product innovation to meet the needs of customers in the US—and anywhere their work takes them.

Calumet Abrasives’ cutting wheels:

  • Are fabricated with premium bonds and abrasives—both standard and zirconia—to ensure optimal performance and product longevity
  • Are tested in-house up to their failure point, which is well beyond the operating conditions of the job: you get your wheels only when performance has been successfully, and safely, demonstrated

Type 1

Cutting stainless or other tough alloys requires a cutting wheel that can stand up to the tool being used and the type of material being cut. We test all our Type 1 wheels in our in-house laboratory to insure that the wheels perform optimally. We then take the wheel out to the field to test it under actual conditions.

Snagging Wheels

Removing big chunks of metal in the fastest possible time requires the use of snagging wheels. We go through the same systematic process when making snagging wheels as we do with our type 1 wheels, emphasizing safety at every turn. We:

  • Analyze all the forces involved
  • Test reinforcements and wheels to their point of destruction
  • Adjust bonds and abrasives to give rapid stock removal

Throughout the process, we keep in mind a simple goal: To give you the most appropriate solution for your specific needs.

Stainless Steel Cutting

Stainless steel is a “gummy” and sticky material to cut, which requires cutting wheels made of stronger, tougher abrasives. We develop such wheels for specific applications in a variety of industries, matching the material being cut along with the grinder being used on the job. We alter the bond, the abrasive and the reinforcement until we get a wheel that excels for the job. After testing in our lab and in the field, we are ready to train your operators to ensure optimal performance.

Welderaser TM Wheels Answer Specific Needs of Process Piping and Fabrication Industries

If you work in energy-related industries, you face unique fabrication and contamination-control issues when cutting and grinding. Calumet understood early on the specific concerns arising from working in such an environment: That’s why the company developed the Welderaser line of products. Fifty years ago, it enlisted the help of welders working on the ground with chemical plants and oil companies to make sure that the Welderaser wheels were the safest and most durable they could be.

Welderaser wheels are used for specific applications, including cutting pipe both for repair work on existing piping, or to create new piping.

Welderaser wheels are just one more example of Calumet’s ingenuity in solving complex issues.
